This is a lowland species that occurs in Sabah on the island of Borneo.

Renanthera citrina (Vietnam)

Renanthera monachica (Philippines)
This species grows at about 100 meters on trees. The plant can reach 50cm tall and produce a 20-30cm inflorescence bearing 5-10 spaced out flowers.

Renanthera vietnamensis (Malaysia, Thailand)
A rare epiphytic species is endemic to mountains of North Vietnam at elevations between 650 to 1200 meters. It has short rigid leathery leaves each measuring about 3 - 4" long. It is capable of producing a neat display of 10 - 20 brightly colored flowers that ranges from orange to red.

Cultivation Tips: It grows best in bright environment that receives optimum sunlight by day at between 25 - 30°C and 15 - 20°C by night. Grow them in free-draining porous media such as rocks, charcoal and bark in pots or baskets or simply tie them to drift wood or fern bark.

Renantherella histrionica (Malaysia, Thailand)
A unique species found in old mangroves at moderate altitudes on trees and rocks of Malaysia and Peninsular Thailand. Plant is often hanging and can reach 2 feet or more. Leaves are succulent, curved, narrow and pointed at the tip. Inflorescence extends outwards bearing 1 or 2 flowers. Flowers are lemon yellow with small blotches of red near the edges of sepals and petals. A subspecies of this species occurs in Sarawak, Borneo and it is called Renantherella historica ssp. auyongii.

Cultivation Tips: It grows best in warm humid and bright environment. Best mounted on drift wood or fern bark, they can also be grown in free-draining porous media such as rocks, charcoal and bark in pots or baskets.

This species was described in Minahassa in Sulawesi and can also be found in Sabah. It has pendent stems of over 50cm long and often grows overhanging rivers. It occurs at elevations up to 1000m.

A beautiful species tha occurs also in Sabah, usually climbing up tree trunks near limestone outcrops at 100m along rivers. Stems can reach a meter in length and leaves of 7cm long by 3.5cm wide. Flowers are about 4cm in diameter and Sabah forms has yellow edge around the sepals.

A widespread species from Sabah that occurs in large bunches on dipterocarp trees at elevations up of 500m. Stems may reach 1meter with leaves ranging from 7 - 12cm long by 1.2 - 2 cm wide. Strongly lemon scented, bright yellow sepals with a white oblong lip.

This species can be found often climbing up tree trunks in shady places of fairly open kerangas forest. It can be found up to elevations of 1300m on slopes of Mount Kinabalu. Stems can reach 2 meters with oblong-elliptic leaves usually 4 - 5 cm long by 1 - 2cm wide.

It was first collected in 1906 in rivervine forest in West Kalimantan. It can also be found in rivervine forest of Sabah. Stems may reach 2 meters and with broad elliptic leaves. Flowers are about 5cm wide.
