What are Dendrobiums?

Dendrobium is a large genus of tropical orchids that consists of about 1200 species.
The name is from the Greek dendron (meaning tree) and bios (meaning life).
The genus occurs in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Borneo, Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand.
The species are either epiphytic, growing on a tree, or occasionally lithophytic, growing over a rock.

	Dendrobium serratilabium (Philippines) This lovely species is endemic to the mountains of Philippines growing in shaded environment at elevations between 500 to 1200 meters. It was recorded in Aurora, Laguna, Quezon and Rizal on Luzon. Flowers may appear in full greenish-yellow without any stripes, some with stripes only on the outside of the petals sepals and lip and some decorated with stripes even on the inside.
