 Introduction
Mount Kinabalu (4095m) is situated in the East Malaysia state of Sabah on the island of Borneo. It is the highest peak between the Himalayas and Papua New Guinea. It is also where you could see the breathtaking sunrise from above the clouds. Despite its height it is very easy to climb and does not require any special equipment or training. With sufficient stamina and endurance, anyone can climb the mountain.

 At the Singapore Changi Airport
This photo was taken moments before I boarded the plane. It was my first flight and my first visit to Borneo. My imagination ran wild along the journey there. When I finally arrived during the evening, it looked similar to the West Malaysia I frequently visits.

Timpohon Gate - Start of Summit Trail
In the picture is the entrance to the trail up Mount Kinabalu. At the gate, people who pass through must show a special tag given only after proper registration with the locals there. The air there was cold and moist, as though in the clouds. At times, fogs may suddenly appear, covering the path before you.

 Along summit trail
The trail was amazing. The preserved primary forest trees were highly decorated with many montane orchid species and plants. Along the trail, you can experience standing under some giant 30 meters tall trees. How cool is that! And on the trees, you can see tons of orchids. That view was so memorable and it just makes me want to visit again and again.

 View from Laban Rata
After a painful climb, with my thigh muscles giving me multiple cramps, Laban Rata came in sight. It was a miracle to see such a huge English Rest house up in the mountains, makes me wonder how it got there. There you can get some amazing views and some really nice food.

After we came back from the summit
After the climb, all climbers gotten a ride back in mini busses to the resting chalet that we stayed overnight when we first arrived. We washed up and headed to a nice restaurant. The restaurant had some fantastic view of Mt. Kinabalu and along the path to the restaurant were huge bushes of impatiens in all kinds of colors. The restaurant there served western breakfast and some local delicacies. The photo on the left and the 2 below are some photos which I had taken near the restaurant.

 Above the Candy Floss
Being above the clouds really is a great experience, but I will always miss the lovely place I visited. I would climb Mt. Kinabalu again and I recommend all plant grower and lovers to try visit the mountain. Here is where all humans truly understand why we need to conserve the forest and to show our future generations what natural wonders God has given to all to enjoy.
